The ocarina I play daily, the one they don't make anymore, (there is a new updated version that I have that I don't like). I dropped it on a 20 gallon antique crock, my ocarina didn't have a chance. :( If anyone has one of these they would consider selling, let me know. I also have the "copy" of this one, but just didn't have the purer sound of the one I dropped, I just "clicked" with the one I broke, you know what I mean. I will try to load a picture. Double Pendant Blue, now might be the time to put it on ebay as I would bid it up!

Ah, that sucks. But it's not as bad as it looks. Both voicing apertures are intact and the ocarina split neatly along the seam. I am almost positive it can be repaired with some epoxy glue and effort. Depending on how neatly it is glued back together, it would probably not even need to be retuned, since all holes are intact.

The most difficult thing to repair in this situation would be the windway of second chamber, which broke in half. A lot of care is necessary to prevent getting any of the glue in the windway.

what a shame, but lands sake, it does happen. I agree with Kresimir, it appears that you might be able to glue it back together. I too would use epoxy. what a clean break. Hummmm, doesn't look as if slip were applied.

but Karen, I am getting old fast and last week I also broke not one but two of my ocarina. My hands somehow can let things simply slip--and yes, I immediately glued them back together.

Good luck with this AND are you still performing in your church and other local places?

Andy

Yes, in fact, doing "Will You Come and Follow Me" tomorrow at church, it's quite a "catchy" tune on an ocarina.

I do hope to be repairing this, just getting over the shock right now. I have spent most of my life doing china, porcelain etc. repairs in the antique business, I'll do a invisible repair on it, clean smooth edges inside and out, it's just the idea that "I broke it", I'll admit, I was rushing!

well do tell us the outcome. Do you also mix oxide colorants in your epoxy?

No, I don't, I have always done more decorative pieces, as vases, crocks, ornate plastered frames, figurines, and have always had to mix my paints to match and used an airbrush and final sealers.
In answer to the other question. This is/was a double ocarina, they don't make mine anymore but make a newer version and it's too big and bulky and the fingers holes on the large side for me. I have one. Here is a link to the newest version. The call it the Pendant Double Ocarina with Max Range by Ocarevolution

Sucks to hear that. Did you manage to repair the ocarina before your performance, or did you use something else? How was your performace?

I used my G pendant, it went well, we had a visiting Minister and he had never heard one and was impressed with the sound of the instrument and asked questions about it.

Glad to hear that it went well, Karen. I will keep an eye on this thread for any further updates on your broken ocarina.

I finished the repair of my ocarina, took longer, my grandkids were here for 8 weeks! Anyways, here is a link to it on youtube and a song at the end I played at a function this past week. I do notice that the ocarina has a somewhat mellower sound, could be the layers of paint. It needs more layers however, my airbrush hose decided to break.
