maybe I should ask the question posted yesterday in another way. Are there makers out there who have studied the relationship of the voicing location to the placement of the two thumb holes and the left hand's fourth finger fingerhole?

The Italian transvers design is terrible sophisticated as to reasons for the tapered areas vs the voicing location as well as the largest fingerholes placed close to the voicing.

I have found issues with almost a turbulence like effect if I place the thumbholes too close to my voicing. As to the pinkey finger if this is what you mean by the fourth finger, I have experimented with its position but haven't noticed any differences dependent upon position whether it be directly in the path of the voicing or high above it/ to the left and right

Hey Jordan, I believe you many be referring to the "traditional" shapes taken for transverse ocarina. Please look at the previous post of mine, including the pictures of the two or three varying shapes of the bamboo globular flutes. It seems that those of us making this type of flute find that the last fingerhole can be impossibly large. The tubular ones are much less prone to have this problem, but they too are more often than not seem to also run into this problem.

I know nothing about the mountain ocarina, but they would expect they too have a consistent interior of Width/height/length within each chamber per instrument.

This characteristic is interesting, because it appears the transverse ocarina is less prone to have a huge right thumb fingerhole. The bamboo example with the huge thumb hole is amazing---the thumb hole only raises the pitch 20 cents!
