Folks I need advice. I found some split bamboo and decided to do something with it. the longitudinal example has been tuned and is wonderful. Now to figure how to finish it, with oil or varnish. the transverse test is interesting. All notes work well to the "B" fingering (C tonic), but then very little increase in pitch with the"c" fingered hole--but the right thumb hole jumps three notes even at that small size???. I wondered your advice for reversing the placement of the blowing channel; that is, instead of it on the left side of the tube, move the channel and voicing to the right? Would that allow making smaller left hand fingerholes?

Strangely the longitudinal ninth hole is much larger than a corresponding right thumb home in a transverse clay ocarina....Maybe the shape does have much more to do with the sizes of fingerholes than I ever imagined.
