In order to give ocarina makers a chance to edit their own information and add news and updates in the opening post of a thread dedicated to their business we ask you to follow the following rule:

If you are making a thread about another ocarina brand, only post factual information in the opening post. If that ocarina brand has a representative on Little Geese: The Ocarina Forum, it would be best to let them create a topic for themselves. Otherwise, if you want to post your opinion or a review, you can create a new post directly after making the first post to do so. Keep in mind that the first post of any thread in this subforum may be completely deleted to be used by the ocarina brand representative that is being discussed in the thread.

If you are an ocarina maker or a representative of an ocarina brand and wish to have a topic dedicated to your business, feel free to start your own, unless it already exists, in which case, please contact the user Bas or send an e-mail to , so that we can arrange it so that you can have the opening post.

Hey guys, I guess you could say that I'm just getting started, but I wanted to show a little of the work Iv'e been doing. These have only been bisque fired, so I think I will probably have a whole other task to deal with when I begin glazing but this is a step in the right direction. For this model, I was looking for a simplistic design focusing more on trying to capture what I think the ocarina is. While I do love some of the complex and beautiful forms that I have seen, I just wanted to take a step back and this is what I have come up with.

Not bad man, not bad at all! It looks like you've been putting some good effort into your ocarinas. Keep it up and keep striving to make them even better. Ill be expecting to see some awesome work from you in the future so keep at it!
One thing I see potential improvement in is location of the right hands finger holes. They seem to be at a cant toward the player and with the right thumb holes placement, it could make faster passages difficult. I would suggest trying to move them up some more toward the top of the curvature of the ocarina. Like when holding a bottle, the fingers have the best grip when they lie at least directly across from eachother. But it's just an assumption as I've not held your ocarina but please consider the possibility :3

Keep it up man. I'm looking forward to what you can improve upon :D

Thanks Ross it means a lot. And maybe with my next ocarina I can try what you are saying and see if the hole placement feels better that way for this design.

Complimenti Spirit. Come ha detto Ross, ci sarebbe da riposizionare i due fori del pollice. Se sono le prime, il risultato è veramente straordinario!

I guess once I have successfully glazed a few, I will either make a youtube video demonstrating its sound quality, or I will upload something onto soundcloud

congrats, your ocarina looks simple and beautiful.
I can tell that you are definitely not a beginner at making ocarina. You must have been making many ocarinas to come to this beautiful one. I am looking forward to your demo video.

Ok I'm not sure if this will let me attach an mp3 file or not. If not, then I will post it on soundcloud. Anyways, this is one of my favorite songs for ocarina so I decided I would play a portion of it. I apologize for the slightly airy sound of my ocarina, but it is still in its bisque state :D. I am ordering a part for my kiln soon so it should be fired not long from now. What I have noticed with my ocarinas is that they seem slightly airy before their second firing, and then I guess the air stream tightens up afterwards which gives me the tone I am seeking.

Thank you for all your compliments :D I really do hope that I will be able to create an ocarina that is desirable to people, and it is really honoring to be complimented my many experienced ocarina makers. I will probably create a full version of the song once some of my ocarinas have been fired.

Ok guys here are some of my first successfully fired ocarinas! I had to fix a few firing issues due to my setup but have finally figured out the problem. Anyways, I am still getting used to glazes of course. From what I have heard it can take a while before you finally start to understand the properties of a specific glaze. I have reached my goal as in the standards of the sound of my ocarina :D I am now reaching the highest note with near perfect clarity (not airy) which is exactly what I am going for. I'm not sure if anybody knows of him, but I am a fan of Spencer Registers Ocarinas, and that is where I get a lot of my inspiration. I enjoy the crystal clear high notes his ocarinas are capable of, and that it my goal. So here are some pictures

I think that I will soon be able to begin selling them, I just need to go ahead a create a website, sound samples more pictures and all that stuff.

It isn't a problem to sell without having a website, there are a few makers that have sold without them. You could put them on etsy, ebay, or other sites, or just have people send you a pm or email and use Paypal. If you would rather wait until you have a website though I completely understand.

I would like to get a website up if I can, but in the meantime, I might just do it through email or something. I was thinking about posting them on youtube for a little advertisement.

Wow, these are pretty impressive! They do resemble Spencer's, but they definitely have your own touch to them.

A question popped into my mind after posting this: Do your ocarinas use a baffle system similar to Spencer's?

Yes I do use a baffle system, however it is not the same baffle system that Spencer Register uses. I decided to build on his system by making specific walls in a specific way in order to balance the pressure on both sides of the walls. However, I make sure that I stay away from his design. I have a lot of respect for him and I do not want to step on any toes :D So far I am pretty happy with the progress I made and it took much experimentation to come to where I am now with my internal design. I learned that changing the baffle design inside the ocarina can drastically change the particular sound you get out of your ocarina. So after you understand how to use them, it just comes down to your particular preference in sound. However, I never cease to learn from each ocarina and am still building on my design. :D

Moderator edit: The rest of the discussion regarding baffles and potential infringement on Spencer Register's patent has been split into a separate topic, here: http://www.littlegeese.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=516

Hey guys, I know most of the makers on here normally have followers on facebook and that is where people track their progress, but I don't have a facebook right now and don't feel like setting one up. ;) I'm moving pretty slow due to the fact that I can only make about 3 ocarinas a week because of school and life getting in the way but I wanted to ask you guys if you had any suggestions so far on my design (such as shape size colors etc.) I will soon be able to glaze these with a few new glazes I bought recently!

As Ross said earlier I am planning on moving the holes upward for a more comfortable grip, I finally figured out how to move them in a way that is more comfortable instead of less.
